Privacy Policy

Effective date: 2026-04-22

One Day a Line ("the app") is a personal diary app designed with privacy as the default. This policy explains what data the app handles and why.

What the app stores

What the app does not do

How data moves

Entries sync via Apple's CloudKit service in your own iCloud private database, the same channel used by other iCloud-backed apps. The developer has no access to this data. Apple's privacy policy governs the transport itself.

Shared diary

You may create a second, shared notebook and invite exactly one other person via an iMessage-style link. That person's Apple ID will be able to read and write to the shared notebook only — they will never gain access to your private diary. The shared notebook and its contents are stored in the CloudKit shared database and flow through your iCloud account, never through any developer-operated server. You may stop sharing at any time from inside the app; doing so immediately revokes your partner's access.

Microphone & speech recognition

The app uses Apple's on-device speech recognition to let you dictate entries. Audio is processed locally whenever possible and sent to Apple only as needed for recognition. The developer never receives audio.

Exporting your data

At any time you can export your entries and photos as a ZIP archive from the Profile screen. You own your data and can walk away with it.

Deleting your data

Deleting an entry in-app removes it from the device and queues a CloudKit delete that propagates to your private iCloud database within seconds. Uninstalling the app removes all local data.

Children

The app is rated for ages 4+ but contains no social features, advertising, or external links beyond this policy page. It does not knowingly collect data from anyone.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes materially, a notice will appear in-app and the effective date at the top of this page will be updated.
